Shopping for the prom dress is probably the second most
important shopping trip a young woman will make, second only to her
wedding dress. Those who understand the importance of shopping for the
dress understand the need to set aside plenty of time for the endeavor.
It’s probably not an event that can be accomplished in an afternoon,
especially if the shopping trip includes several girls and if the trip
is to include shopping for the other necessities that go with the prom
dress.
Remember that the prom dress must first look great. Especially if you
are a parent, it’s difficult to keep that in mind. Finding a middle
ground that’s acceptable to both parent and daughter is necessary to
make the shopping trip a memorable event. But it’s also important to
remember that the dress has to be functional. The girl might look great
standing still, but if the dress isn’t also comfortable for walking and
sitting without slipping down, sliding askew or riding into a
less-than-perfect position, it’s not the right dress. The prom is a
chance to show off a perfect dress that looks great, both on and off
the dance floor.
While finding the prom dress is probably an exhausting endeavor, it’s
probably a good idea to shop for the other necessities while you have
the dress in hand. The last thing you need is to discover that the
dress is useless because you don’t have the correct undergarments, or
that you can’t find them in the correct size and configuration.
Purchasing undergarments without the dress, especially if the dress has
a plunging neckline or open back, is a gamble that the undergarments
will fit well.
By setting some boundaries before the shopping begins, setting aside
sufficient time to search for the perfect prom dress, and putting the
correct emphasis on the shopping trip, the event should be a wonderful
adventure.
