Prom Tuxedos – Traditional or Trendy?
While prom tuxedos available for proms a few decades ago were
all very much the same, the exact opposite is true today. Young men
preparing for prom have more options than ever and their clothing, much
like the young ladies’ prom dresses, can be a true statement to their
personalities.
Because a prom tuxedo cummerbund is often offered in a color, the young
man must choose a color to match the dress of the young lady he plans
to accompany. Usually, finding the exact color is important, but some
couples decide to use contrasting colors instead.
A few decades ago, young men always rented the tux for the prom. Today,
more are opting to purchase the prom tux. Sometimes, the style of the
prom tuxedo is such that it is suitable for other events. In the case
of juniors, the same basic suit can be used for the senior prom,
providing the young man doesn’t grow significantly in the meantime. By
changing the accessories, adding or taking away the cummerbund, and
making other minor changes, the prom tuxedo can take on a whole new
appearance.
Tuxedoes are traditionally thought of only for proms, weddings and some
very exclusive black tie events. That has changed somewhat because of
the styles now offered. The classic lapel look of tuxedoes is still
very popular, but there are many styles now offered in which that is
not the case. Some styles instead use the “clerical collar” look, with
a raised collar and no lapel at all. A number of accessories for the
young man are now available. Any of these, including top hats or canes,
add a distinctive look of elegance to prom tuxedoes. These accessories,
combined with pin stripes and a variety of colors, give the young man
the same opportunities as the young women – the chance to make his prom
apparel a statement of his personality.
